Volunteer Your Time

Even if you only have an hour or two of extra time a week, volunteering can be a great way to energize your spirit and help someone in need.

Stumped about where to start? Consider these options:

  • VolunteerMatch: Search for volunteer opportunities by location (ZIP code or city) and keyword (like tutor, construction, etc.). You can even sign up to receive updates about opportunities, sent right in your email inbox.
  • HandsOn Network: Get a comprehensive list of volunteer centers by state.
  • Make the most of your professional skills—go pro bono. Whether you’re a whiz with desktop publishing, have a background in accounting or are a marketing guru, chances are there’s a nonprofit organization in your community who could really benefit from your skills. And, a few hours of pro bono work a week could help give you a new outlook on your field. Contact local nonprofits or visit Taproot Foundation to find an opportunity.
  • Get out your phone book and start calling the schools, libraries and community centers in your town to find out who needs an extra hand.
